Book Review

A Deal with the Elf King by Elise Kova

I needed a lovey-dovey feel-good book to read. I had just gotten off a stint of non-fiction and all these faerie porn #booktok posts had me craving a good fantasy story. With a little bit of spice.

With a blurb like it had on Goodreads, I needed to read it. Even better, it was free on Kindle Unlimited!

A Deal with the Elf King was just that, with less spice than I was looking for, but it 100% worked for the story.

The main character Luella was very loveable and easy to relate to. She was plucked from her life as a healer and herbalist from the town of Capton to become the next Human Queen to the wild magic filled world of midscape.

At times it seemed like nothing she ever did was right and felt like she didn’t belong there for a long time. She even made an escape attempt, only to be caught by the Elf King she was running from.

The book was a very slow burn romance and as much as I kept thinking this next page will be the one where they make their move and be together for the rest of their lives, a twist was thrown into the mix, and Eldas, The Elf King, was dissuaded and backed off from any feelings he might have developed towards Luella.

Luella never faltered in her mission to end the cycle of Human Queens. And in the end, she got… well you’re just going to have to read it.
